Professor Daphne Laurel, also known as Daf, is a young woman who, when first introduced to the player, had recently moved back to the Hafod region to become the Pokémon Professor. She is the daughter of Professor Laurel, her late father. She acts as both Pokémon Professor and rival to the player as she is a similar age. She is a big fan of Professor Birch of the Hoenn region and is researching how a Pokémon’s surroundings impact its appearance, abilities and evolution.
Daphne was born in Hafod but moved to Kalos with her mother when she was a child after her parents separated. She studied Pokémon ecology at university in Kalos and had only recently qualified to be a Pokémon professor when she heard the news of her father's sudden death. It was assumed without question that she would take over.
When the player meets her, she is subdued and melancholy. She misses her old life in Kalos and feels trapped in her new role as Hafod's Pokémon professor though she is truly passionate about her research. She is also grieving her father, though their relationship was strained. She struggles at first to feel at home in Hafod and suffers from an identity crisis as her childhood memories begin to intersect with her new life.
As the story progresses and Daphne gets to know and trust the player as well as Dylan, she opens up and begins to process her feelings about what it means to feel at home and how to let go of the past.

Japanese: ダプネー博士 Dr. Daphne, from Daphne meaning Laurel, in reference to the nymph from greek mythology who was turned into a tree by her father (mirroring how Daphne has been turned into Hafod's new Pokémon professor— commonly known by their tree-related surnames— somewhat reluctantly).
English: Same as Japanese name.
